At last night’s meeting the Guilford County Board of Commissioners voted 9-2 to spike retirement bonuses they inadvertently approved earlier this year.
Commissioners Skip Alston and Bruce Davis voted to keep the bonuses in place. Commissioner Billy Yow ended up voting to rescind the bonuses, though he expressed concern that affected employees would later sue the county. What do you know — the Rhino reports County Manager Brenda Jones Fox –who would have gotten a cool $61k bonus —– is threatening to do just that.
Sounds like commissioner got an earful from the public, although the N&R says only a handful of people showed up at last night’s meeting to speak out. You can’t help but wonder what would happen if this issue were put on a ballot, like California, where citizens in San Diego and San Jose overwhelmingly voted to cut retirement benefits for city workers.
Expect similar votes on other cities and states.
