Local blog Triad Conservative first reported he was hearing “through the grapevine” there was a “transgendered teacher” within the Guilford County school system. But—with all due respect to Dr. Joe Guarino—-we all know how the “grapevine” is not always the best news source.

But then a source of mine told me he read about it in the Northwest (Guilford County) Observer and sure enough there it is right on the front page. When contacted by the Northwest Observer, GCS chief of staff Nora Carr did not deny the existence of the cross-dressing substitute teacher, nor did she say she would investigate. Carr merely replied via email-as the NW Observer reports- that at GCS believes “we believe in the dignity of individuals… we teach our students to treat everyone with respect and kindness and strive to lead,” and then provided a link to the system’s “discrimination-free environment policy.”

Superintendent Mo Green is off to the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation—-his last day at GCS was today. Whether his friend Nora Carr will follow suit remains to be seen. Based on GCS officials reaction, it seems as though the only recourse parents who don’t believe it’s appropriate to have a cross-dressing substitute teacher in the classroom is to pay heed to the upcoming (partisan) school board election.
