No, that’s not the calorie-laden after dinner course that we all want to wish away with a pill, as Donna alluded.

It’s what your friends do when they realize your ship is sinking, and they don’t want to be blamed or dragged down with it.

The self-serving, and apparently illegal, tactics of Lisa Graham Keegan at the Education Leaders Council have driven pretty much everyone with scruples or an eye to their reputation right out of the organization. That’s eight members of the former ELC board so far.

Abigail Thernstrom, most recently of “No Excuses: Closing the Racial Gap in Learning” fame, stated that her name had been attached to an executive committee document–one Keegan is using to defend her reputation–without Thernstrom’s knowledge or consent.

Undersecretay of Education Eugene Hickock, a longtime Keegan associate and friend, cut Keegan loose professionally but tactfully. He claimed to be unable to pass judgment on the situaton at ELC, but chose phrases that suggest an organization gone wrong, rather than Keegan gone power-hungry.
