The Winston-Salem Journal reports the statewide gun rights nonprofit Grass Roots North Carolina is preparing to sue the City of Winston Salem over a city ordinance that prohibits guns in city parks.
At issue is whether or not “passive recreation facilities” such as walking trails, greenways, and dog parks are considered “athletic facilities,” in which the city ordinance prohibits guns. Grassroots North Carolina does not consider them athletic facilities; the city claims state law does not define the term, thus providing cover for the ordinance.
