Less than an hour after John Edwards’ indictment was announced, Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan issued a statement calling for the immediate confirmation of Democrat Thomas Walker to succeed Republican George  Holding as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

As either first assistant U.S. attorney or U.S. attorney, Holding supervised the corruption probes of former state Agriculture Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps, former state House Speaker Jim Black, former U.S. Rep. Frank Ballance, former U.S. Attorney Sam Currin, former Gov. Mike Easley, his top aide Ruffin Poole, and Edwards.

All but Easley and Edwards have been sentenced to jail (so far).
