Eddie Scarry of the Federalist gave thanks this week for Vice President Kamala Harris’ flawed character.
If Kamala Harris had not been so awe-inspiring in her delusional self-confidence to try to play president, I’m not sure we would be at the dawn of a second Trump term. So for her ego this year, I am eternally grateful.
A favorite mental exercise of mine since Inauguration Day 2021 was anticipating what Democrats were going to do in less than four years when faced with the choice of either running Joe Biden again or attempting to force feed Kamala Harris to voters. It wasn’t a false dilemma. Barring a public statement from Kamala that she had no interested in being the 2024 Democrat nominee, then either Biden, with the indispensable benefit of incumbency, would have to run again, or it was going to be her — a person even the media knew was a joke. I wrote about this exact problem Democrats had a year ago and again two years before that.
Unfortunately for Democrats, Kamala actually thought she could do it. Despite having already run for president once and flaming out in spectacular fashion, she believed there was a shortcut this time. Not that anyone can blame her. The national media heard its calling and stepped up in a way they never have before. They lied, manipulated, and deceived like their livelihoods depended on it (In fairness, they did). But it took an extra special something for Kamala to truly believe this was something she could do.
The table was set ever so sterile for her to say in a nationally televised interview something like, “The president chose me as his running mate in 2020 and I’m either executing that same role again or I won’t be on the ticket at all.” Rep. Nancy Pelosi nudged her in that direction after Biden withdrew from the race by suggesting there should be a truncated primary for the party to choose a new nominee. But Kamala sincerely believed she was what America wanted — a Mommala president.
