GCS’ “community-oriented approach” (whatever that means) to hiring more minority contractors is off to a slow start.

That’s probably because school board member Deena Hayes, when searching for members of her committee, doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that there aren’t many contractors, period, who want to work with GCS, never mind minority contractors. Then when you try to weed out minority contractors who might apply for work with GCS, the numbers dwindle even more.

I guess the next step is to have the government create more minority contractors who specialize in school construction so that GCS can meet its 12 percent goal.
