Go ahead and pick your way through this Jim Morrill story and see if you land at the same place I do. Robin Hayes announced yesterday that he’s not running against Larry Kissell next year — and tried to announce that Pat McCrory is not either.
McCrory, given the opportunity to make a similar declaration, declined to do so. And Morrill adds this bit of cipher: “Sources say the mayor had privately told party insiders not to expect him to make the race.”
In other words, Pat has not made up his mind yet, but is leaning against it. Or, in still other words, McCrory still might run.

Bonus Observation: Until the NRCC comes up with another name to float or McCrory definitively takes himself out of the race, the NRCC is gonna keep circling back to Pat.
