New Winston-Salem Police Chief Barry Rountree will be sworn in on Sunday, just days after being placed on administrative leave after shooting incident involving a dog and its owner.

Rountree was responding to a 911 call that a man was standing on his brandishing a “double-barrel weapon” when the dog ran from behind the house. Rountree fired, hit the dog and the owner after the bullet richocheted.

Fortunately dog and owner are recovering. Unfortunately the guy standing on his porch with the “double-barrel weapon” was never found.

Update: Winston-Salem Journal interview with shooting victim Tamara Whitt. The boxer mix –named ‘LeBron’ — was treated and is being held at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter.
