I also noticed rumors of another run by controversial (to say the least) former Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege on a Dispatch forum, but Capital Beat’s Mark Binker runs with it, linking the rumors to a bill filed by Sen. Stan Bingham that would put a constitutional amendment before voters that would forbid felons from running for sheriff.
Bingham doesn’t think his bill will pass, but he thinks Hege will make another run for Davidson sheriff in ’10. He also thinks Hege won’t win. Even more interesting is Bingham’s statement that Hege isn’t the only convicted felon who would run for sheriff. Not a comforting thought, huh?
