If you care how the money you spend filling up the tank will be used ? and in a free society you get to care, though you don?t have to ? I recommend staying away from Citgo stations if at all possible.
The Citgo network of refineries and distribution is owned by the government of Venezuela, which essentially means that it is controlled by Hugo Chavez. He is propping up Fidel Castro and seeking to foment leftist revolution throughout Latin America in which he calls a new ?Bolivarian Revolution.? Only this time the target isn?t Spain, it?s the U.S.
Chavez refuses to sell Venezuela?s oil at market prices, instead using it for regional political influence and military acquisitions. That?s no skin off of our nose, though it certainly is off of the people of Venezuela. The point is that given the multiplicity of options available, Citgo is an unattractive one to me just now ? even though others involving generating revenues for Middle Eastern monarchies and theocracies.
