Swain and Graham counties have been suing each other over how much money they should get from the federal government for having property taken off the tax rolls by the lake created by Fontana Dam. In the last ruling, Swain forfeited about $200,000 in compensation to Graham. But since then, an old surveyor’s monument has been discovered, establishing the dividing line between the counties and winning back $150,000 a year for Swain.
