You may have caught word of the uproar that befell the dean of NCSU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Toby Parcel, when she suggested to a group of professors that NC State might accept a donation from Art Pope. Jane Shaw thought it fitting to respond to the belly-aching that ensued. And here’s something that’s a lot more than overselling higher education – try overpaying for it. Guilford County Schools Superintendent Terry Grier is trying to find a way to provide graduating high school students up to two years of free college courses at a nearby community college. Terry Stoops is skeptical (surprised?). In other higher ed foolery, talk continues over the proposed UNC-Rocky Mount. The Pope Center’s Shannon Blosser thinks that pulling the state into the venture is asking a bit much.
