Halloween used to be so much simpler.
Is this offensive? Besides being a bad pun, I mean.
Hispanic activists in California have already succeeded in pressuring Target into pulling the Illegal Alien costume and are after Walgreens and Amazon.com to do the same. As if that’ll stop anyone in America from finding the get-up or making the same thing at home.
I await any tiny dollop of similar moral outrage directed at putting pre-teens in mini-skirts and fishnets and sending them forth as pirate wenches. Or she-devils. Or dark angels.
Here’s an idea, let’s stop treating adults like little kids who must be sheltered from any and all things “offensive,” and stop dressing up little kids like adult sex objects.
Bonus Observation: Charlotte’s very own costume emporium, Morris Costumes, is hawking an array of costumes that do not aim for the prim and proper demographic, including Super Sperm. But it is a wonder that we have not heard about Tighty Whitey triggering some sort of backlash. This jaunty little number is also available in many of the empty store-front Halloween stores that pop up for a few weeks at this time of year.
