One of the arguments used by Wake CARES, a group of concerned parents who are fighting Wake County school system’s decision to convert many local schools to a year-round calendar, is that mobile classrooms can be a cheap solution to growing needs.  They hitched their argument to Terry Stoops‘s report on educational facilities and their impact on student success. Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools will soon be mired in this same problem, if current Wake trends are any bellwether. Not convinced? Speaking with Al Garner on WBT, Lindalyn Kakadelis told how board members are going against the advice of citizens. However, sometimes giving the people what they do want can lead to bad consequences, like recent news that in showing signs of raising the charter school cap could bring less freedom for charter schools. In related news, George Leef provided an interview for the National Association of Manufacturers about the state’s new high school graduation requirements. Read about it. Listen to it. The rules try to direct students towards getting a college education; time that George thinks may not be well spent, as he said to a group of students at Campbell University.
