What kinda crap is this from the UNC Chancellor?
Asked, prior to a meeting with UNC’s faculty, if he could definitively say that Davis would remain as the football coach, Thorp began his response by saying it wasn’t a fair question. Then he added: “Competitive, big-time football is a hazardous undertaking, but the plan right now is for him to be the coach next year. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do to get to the bottom of this, and we’re pleased with him.”
What and competitive, big-time basketball is not hazardous?
And what, exactly is “this” — besides an academic tutoring program ultimately under the control of…Holden Thorp and the rest of green-eyed faculty who hate the idea of football coaches making more than tenured profs who see 17 students a semester.
Chapel Hill has been coasting on past glories for far too long. Now this anti-football cabal has taken root in an attempt to justify and project an “upper-crust” image. Well, there is at least one alum who isn’t buying what Thorp is selling — and who is thinking hard about the better, more cost effective college educations out there.
Update: Sure looks like the NCAA is on UNC’s tail also over players having ongoing relationships with agents. If they can prove an actual tangible benefit — a house — a la Reggie Bush — or a car — do it already.
