Some folks think homeschool families are paranoid regarding their freedoms in educating their children. However, a situation occurring in Germany last week helps us appreciate not only our freedoms in American, but also appreciate homeschool families committed to serve as ?watch dogs? over parental rights in our country. Seems a ban to prohibit homeschooling began during Adolf Hitler is still being enforced in Germany. Last week, government officials removed a 16-year-old girl from her family and placed her in a child psychiatry unit. The government said:

In order to avoid this in future, the education authority is in conversation with the affected family in order to look for possibilities to bring the religious convictions of the family into line with the unalterable school attendance requirement.

Michael Farris, co-founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association, has valid concerns. If the Senate or federal courts ever accept the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as enforceable international law, American homeschooling could be banned.
This situation should motivate every American to not take this freedom for granted, but also expand parental rights regarding the education of their children.
