A bill introduced by state Sen. Jim Jacumin (R-44) — with bipartisan co-sponsorship of 40% of the Senate — would open public school athletic programs to students at any school, public or private, which doesn’t offer the sport in question. The largest N.C. homeschool organization is opposing it, standing on the principle of limiting government interference with private educational decisions instead of pursuing the admittedly attractive idea.
