The Henderson County Commissioners decided to spend $910,000 on the purchase of an abandoned Christian school. They wish to convert it into a recreation center. The next item of business will be spending $1.01 million on Astroturf, outdoor lighting, and parking spaces. Another $284,000 will be spent bringing Jackson Park up to “tournament standards.” Operating the facility is expected to cost about $186,000 a year, but two jobs will be created. Lest you believe the commissioners have become spendthrift, be it known the county shall apply for a $500,000 grant from that broken and teacher-firing State of North Carolina.
