Employees and board members of the little town of Forest Hills in Jackson County will continue to work for free. They discussed giving themselves $50 a month. Some thought meeting attendance should be required, but others argued otherwise since a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. Board member Gene Tweedy and Mayor Jim Wallace felt funny about voting themselves raises and asked that any raise go into effect when the next board is installed. Suzanne Stone joined the two in voting against the measure.

Some thought it advisable to begin paying members of the planning board, the town’s finance officer, and its clerk. Finance Officer Kolleen Begley was happy to continue serving as a volunteer. The interim clerk quit, and so the board thought they may have to pay somebody to hold down the massive, thankless responsibilities of that job.
