JLF’s July press conference featuring physicist and climate
scientist Dr. S. Fred Singer so upset Durham resident Cynthia Shurling
that she complained in a letter to the editor of the Raleigh News &
Observer. Ms. Shurling balked at the fact that global warming science
isn’t settled, characterizing Singer and other global warming
skeptics as “a collection of fringe scientists.” Roy Cordato responded
with his own letter, noting that Shurling’s argument was typical of
alarmists. “They attack everything about those who disagree with them
except their evidence and their science.” In this Spotlight paper,
Cordato wrote about concerns over the state’s desire to implement
climate change policy via a state commission, which at this point
includes several alarmist groups but no climate scientist or economist.
