N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger announced in an afternoon news conference that they’ve reached a deal on the next state budget. They expect senators to vote on the plan Wednesday and Thursday, with the House following suit Friday and Saturday. The budget would then head to Gov. Beverly Perdue for her signature or veto.

Tillis says he expects enough “yes” votes from Democrats to secure a veto-proof majority. When pressed, he admitted he did not have commitments from Democrats to support a potential veto override. Tillis also said he hoped there would be no need to resort to an override vote.
