A bill making its way through the General Assembly seeks to step into the process of researching and buying a hearing aid. From the News & Observer:

“We are trying to provide more information to consumers who are in the market for a hearing aid, to help them get more information about how to deal with dealers, to know what to expect, to ask for a 30-day trial period and to make them aware of the pitfalls of Web purchases,” said state Rep. Jennifer Weiss, Democrat of Cary, one of the bill’s House sponsors.

How about using some common sense, just as we do when making any substantive purchase? Do we really need government intervention? No. Talk with your doctor, do some research, ask around at work or church, and make sure you can return the device if you’re not pleased. If the dealer fails to perform as advertised, take them to court.
