A very interesting article in the Mountain Xpress credits Buncombe County commissioner and candidate for chairman Miranda DeBruhl with preventing the county from giving corporate welfare to Deschutes Brewery. The article alleges duplicity promulgated either by Henderson or Buncombe county management in claiming Deschutes had made an offer on the property Henderson sold to Buncombe to, as the public was informed, be part of a fantastic economic development incentives deal named Bravo IV, which the press linked with Deschutes. From there, DeBruhl took to Twitter to call Buncombe’s bluff, get Deschutes to admit their lack of interest, and thus pave the way to sell the property to help balance the budget without a tax increase. But then, back to Charlie Rich, no one knows what really goes on behind closed doors.
