That’s how green.

Scoffed a former Gore adviser in response: “I think what you’re seeing here is the last gasp of the global warming skeptics. They’ve completely lost the debate on the issue so now they’re just attacking their most effective opponent.”

While we’re on the subject, the Journal’s Linda Brinson acknowledges that citizens might get a little NIMBY when it comes to renewable energy. They’re some big names here, too:

Take wind power. It’s clean, and the world is unlikely to run out of wind. There’s a lot to like and little to worry about – until somebody proposes to build a wind-turbine farm. Then people nearby start equivocating. They like the idea of wind power, they say, but their neighborhood is just not the right place for giant windmills.

That’s the case in Massachusetts, where a battle has raged for years over a proposal to build a huge wind farm in Nantucket Sound. The Kennedy family is usually in the environmentally friendly camp, but Sen. Ted Kennedy owns a home overlooking the site of the proposed wind project. That changes things. He’s opposed, as is Walter Cronkite, the former CBS anchorman, who owns a house on Martha’s Vineyard.

A couple of pretty influential people with deep pockets in opposition to renewable energy. I’m not saying that’s good; I’m just saying it’s an inconvenient truth. That’s why I believe Rep. Harrison’s bill definitely needs some more work before becoming law, just make sure it’s not caught up in the political hysteria surrounding global warming.
