It would be difficult to argue on logic that government must oversee alcohol sales when ABC stores are frequently in the news for alleged wrongdoings. Perhaps we could apply the perspective that misdeeds go on at all businesses, but the government is good at catching it. An investigation by the state board of the Tryon store, which was recently closed due to suspicious losses, found a problem with the humidifier. The store was so dry, $3000 worth of alcohol evaporated and took the bottles with it.
