It kills me that the Cedar Posts blog is the single-best source of information on what is going on at the top of CMPD.
The latest, a trip this week to Sydney by Rodney Monroe (and possibly guests) ostensibly to attend an international crime symposium. The latest spin is that the FBI (?!) footed the bill for the trip, the better to not bother Charlotte city council members currently rapt by the Charlotte Chamber’s in-town dog-and-pony show.
In other words, some amount of federal money that could’ve been used to fight crime was instead used to send Chief Monroe on an international junket. Coupled with the pending police academy scandal — you watch, ladies and gentlemen — and the way CMPD is bleeding veteran talent, we’ll have a full blown public safety crisis in two years.
When that happens, remember what city council and City Manager Curt Walton were doing — criss-crossing Charlotte being told how wonderful things are in the city.
