I think we should require new buildings to have two stories for mixed-use infill development, and they should be LEED certified as well. We need a moratorium on new building downtown because too many migratory songbirds are crashing into highrises. We need more pocket parks and mandatory 500’ buffers on streamfront property to protect the habitat of the marbled salamander. The city needs to condemn more property for greenways, and we need to stop building on the slopes. Ecru is pushing the envelope for colors acceptable for hillside houses that would be grandfathered-in to a new ordinance. Street trees will really help synergize a vibrant sense of place. Green, fluted lamp posts will help brand our identity. Local socialized medicine and living wage requirements could stimulate the economy, and more buses could save us from global warming.
