This is a great article from the Wilmington Star News that details just how the state is able to charge its customers almost $62 for a case of booze that it bought for under $6. According to the Star News, “for every delivered case of spirituous liquor approved for sale, there is an 80.8 percent markup from the distiller’s price.” All other taxes and fees that the customer pays, most of which also goes to the state, is on top of that. Where are NC’s price gouging laws when you need them? Oh that’s right, they only apply to honest, private sector companies operating in a competitive market, not politician controlled monopolies. Get ready, our nation’s health care system is next.
