Do what Duke Energy did earlier this week in asking new CEO Bill Johnson to resign 20 minutes or so after the merger with Progress Energy was completed. Not sure why any ex-Progress Energy employee, state or federal regulator, or the general public would believe a word the company says at this point.

Bonus observation: I’m sure some Uptown types think Johnson’s resignation is a win for Charlotte’s traditional power structure. Such thinking is extremely shortsighted. It’s never a good thing for a company when its regulators think it deceived them to get a deal done.

Update: The State of North Carolina is not amused, with both Attorney General Roy Cooper and the N.C. Utilities Commission starting investigations.
