Tryon is now an official NC Main Street community. In order to get the status, the town had to hire a permanent Main Street director, organize the community according to the registered-trademark plan, and receive special training from state-level Main Street experts.
Tryon’s former economic development director Crys Armbrust, told commissioners the designation as a Main Street community would open Tryon up to increased funding and increased support on an administrative level for planning and development.
