The Wall Street Journal and American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) both suggest ending the federal government’s open-ended match on state Medicaid spending in favor of block grants. For those in North Carolina who still want to expand Medicaid because we get $2 for every $1 we spend, remember that every other state is doing the same thing, so North Carolina taxpayers really pay the full $3 or more through federal payments to other states.

On a related note, John Goodman of the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) shows how even when groups decry federal Medicaid cuts, spending still increases.
