The City of High Point is enlisting help from City Council members to collect delinquent furniture market authority taxes:

Councilman Latimer Alexander volunteered to hand deliver a tax bill to one property owner.

“I have asked one of the larger past due accounts if they would take care of this debt in a more timely manner,” Alexander said. “It’s very important that people keep their tax bills current, and certainly our market authority needs those dollars to perform their function.”

If collection efforts like Alexander’s are unsuccessful, officials plan to get the city attorney’s office involved to pursue the debts.

The authority needs the money, because state is funding for the furniture market is uncertain this year, to say the least.
