The High Point City Council last night voted to scrap a zoning district that would limit construction of downtown furniture showrooms.

If you’ve ever been to High Point, you’d know that the center city is already dominated by showrooms, so — believe it or not — I don’t necessarily oppose an overlay that might possibly restore a little charm to downtown.

By the same token, is an overlay really necessary for a market that’s still feeling its way through the 21st century economy?
