Note the neat segue in this High Point Enterprise article on the dangling $2 million in city bond funds:
“I’m not open to using it on the greenway. I know there’s a very few folks out there that seem to be pushing that agenda,” said Councilman Chris Whitley, who reflected the majority viewpoint among the council that the money should be spent on more pressing needs and not for something that benefits a relatively small number of people. “My goal would be to see what the real interests are of the citizens. What would they like to see done? There’s a lot of options out there.”
One possibility would be the idea of a regional skateboard park that was presented to the council by a group of residents earlier this month. Whitley said the city could always leave the money alone and combine it with future funds on a project.
You know how I feel about greenways. But is it just me, or is there a suggestion that a regional skateboard park —and an amphitheater, for that matter —– is a “pressing need” something that benefits more than “a relatively small number of people?”
