The High Point Enterprise has unveiled its new Web site. The home page is a lot more user-friendly, and apparently registration will no longer be required to access articles.

This is a welcome upgrade and I will definitely visit the site more often. The Enterprise’s content has suffered over the years, but every now and then they break good stories, most notably the controversy over HUD regulations banning worship services in public housing developments.

It’s personally been a tough year in the Enterprise newsroom as a couple of veteran reporters lost their battles with cancer — Nick Maheras died back in May, and earlier this week we learned that Tom Berry passed away.

I worked under the Enterprise umbrella for a time but I didn’t know Tom —- he was a sports writer and was coming to work just as I was leaving. I did know Nick —- for an “old guy,” he was a helluva basketball player.

Update: Link fixed. Thanks to those who let me know.
