Do you ever have those days when all your email seems to be coming from communist dupes? Today was one such day, with one exception. A candidate for Asheville City Council responded to my telephone and email requests for statements. Her deadline was last Wednesday. She was the second candidate to tell me she had better wait until after the interview process. I still haven’t heard back from one of the candidates. FYI, my request was for an article in the Asheville Tribune.
Contrasted to the leadership style that is too afraid or unknowledgeable to talk to the press, I would call to your attention Kelly Miller. Though I was leaning toward Chuck Archerd for his strong, fiscally-conservative background, I gained a profound respect for Miller. On the night the finalists were selected, he was the only one to pick up the phone. I challenged him on some of his views I didn’t like and asked how he would respond to people who don’t like my views. Though we didn’t see eye-to-eye on some things, he was ready to play hardball, and he knew his answers. Since the vacancy on council will be the appointed winner of an essay/interview contest, I don’t think McCain-Feingold applies, and I can use this space to give praise where praise is due.
