I lived in Germany from 1951-54 and 1959-62 as a dependent of a U.S. Army officer and from 1968-70 while in the U.S. Air Force. Apparently, things have changed for servicemen since I left. It seems servicemen and women now have to disguise their American-ness by using German license plates. According to a US Army in Europe spokesman (USAREUR):
?It?s a force-protection initiative to allow our forces to blend in a little better.?
It’s nice to know we’re appreciated.
