Evolution is a good thing, liberals always tell us. Creationism is a joke, they say. Darwin is king. So why are we so concerned with the piping plovers of Cape May, New Jersey. It seems these birds build their nests in sand, on the ground, in a town filled with cats. Naturally, the cats see this as a beach buffet, and the piping plovers are disappearing. Efforts are under way to ban or euthanize the cats of Cape May, and the feds are thinking about intervening.
Now, full disclosure here, I’m a cat person. My cats have rid my backyard of voles, mice, a few rats, and even a rabbit or two. They also have been known to bring a few bluejays and doves in through their cat door and leave feathers all over our living room. Now, I’ve always thought that species learn from this and adjust, thereby ensuring the survival of their species. If they don’t, then, well, they go extinct, as they should. That’s the whole Darwinian idea, isn’t it? Why should we artificially intervene and ban cats from Cape May if the plovers are too dumb to nest in trees? Doesn’t that ensure the survival of the unfit? Despite what enviro lefties tell us, not all species are created equal. Some are meant to become extinct.
