Rep. Bart Stupak announces he’ll vote for Obamacare. So do a handful of other putative pro-life Democrats. This almost certainly gives the leadership enough support to pass the Senate bill.

The price for these votes? An Executive Order, signed by President Obama, promising to uphold the Hyde Amendment (which was invalidated by the original Senate health care bill).

Whether the EO will have the same effect as duly passed legislation is a topic for another time. But I must say that I predicted this sort of outcome nearly two weeks ago when I wrote

… if any deal is struck that wins the support of Stupak and other
so-called pro-lifers who voted yes on the initial House bill, remember:
These lawmakers are Democrats first, pro-lifers second.

There are times you wish your crystal ball wasn’t working. Like this one.
