It reads like a Kurt Vonnegut short story. Maggie Valley is trying to bait tourists. To do so, it embraced an aesthetic theme called “mountain vernacular.” Nobody knows what “mountain vernacular” means, even though the town formed commissions to figure it out. Whatever it is, it is a vision with a touch of rustic, bungalow, and Polish. Some may fear it is a wave of regulations to jack up Maggie Valley’s planning penalty. It also had all sorts of people planting flowers all over the place to attract the tourists.
