If that’s the case, then Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes might back out of 287 (g):

“What it comes down to is, they don’t want you to use a Taser,” Barnes said. “That may be a deal-breaker. I’m not going to say one way or another.”

….Barnes said it would be hard to draw that line in a jail. If detention officers had to respond to a fight in a crowded day room, for example, Barnes said there would be no time to check the nationalities of those involved before deciding on what action to take.

I can’t help but notice that Lorraine Ahearn is on this story instead of regular county beat reporter Gerald Witt. As part of her journalistic advocacy, Ahearn was very pro-immigrant when she was the N&R’s metro columnist. On the whole the story is balanced, though it would appear to slant toward the end. And she doesn’t pass on the chance to get in a shot at Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson.
