When asked by the Durham Herald-Sun about security concerns for students whose schools use Social Security numbers as identifiers, legal and regulatory analyst, Daren Bakst, said, “Should parents be concerned? Yes. Identity theft is a big issue.” And while Daren focused on student identity, Lindalyn Kakadelis turned towards a superintendent.  CMS is identifying candidates for superintendent.  The Charlotte Observer queried Lindalyn about her recommendations for keeping the process open to the public.  And in Georgia, local writers are identifying Terry Stoops as a source of information on teacher pay.  Without mentioning the study by name (we will though:  “Learning about Teacher Pay”), Walter Jones of the Georgia Banner-Herald and Jim Wooten of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, used Stoops’s study to show that it’s not a lack of funding that’s keeping student achievement low.  Even in higher education, the subsidizing of schools is only aiding the propagation of poor-quality education.  And if we try to regulate, we’ll probably just screw it up more, said George Leef in The Chronicles of Higher Education.
