Forsyth County Commissioner Ted Kaplan has presented a resolution to his fellow county county that would repeal the 6-percent hotel occupancy tax and eliminate the Tourism Develoment Authority’s main source of funding.

I couldn’t help but laugh at Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines reaction:

“I think it’s just a great concern to me as mayor that the community stands to lose several million of dollars of revenue,” Joines said.

The city uses its portion of the occupancy-tax revenue — about $600,000 — to offset losses from the Benton Convention Center, Joines said. If that money didn’t come from the occupancy tax, it would have to come from taxpayers, Joines said.

Yeah, I know what Joines is saying. It’s still funny though, and an indication of government’s mentality these days.
