“If someone thinks some sort of source of revenue ought to be eliminated, they ought to have some way we’re going to replace it.”
So said Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy in a story in Tuesday’s News & Observer of Raleigh, in response to a call from the chairman of the local chamber of commerce board to dump the recent hike on the “privilege” license tax, which has upset business owners required to pay it for the “privilege” of operating a business.
It would be refreshing to hear a public official express a similar thought to protect the hard working folks who get stuck with the tab for the spending sprees by government. My suggestion for a quote I’d love to hear:
“If someone thinks this new spending ought to take place, they ought to have some way we’re going to offset it by reducing expenses elsewhere.”
