Criminy, what would be one of the worst ways for a major research university to act after a whirlwind of departures brought about by a governor finagling his wife a six-figure sinecure on the brink of his leaving office while engaging in a host of shenanigans with a university trustee — i.e., political patronage run amok?
How about immediately dreaming of hiring a former governor with no experience leading a university? Jim Hunt, the king of patronage? For real? I couldn’t believe the news this morning (except that, well, yes, it’s totally believable in this one-party state). Frankly, I’m surprised they haven’t mentioned John Edwards’ name, too. He’s another Democrat out of office who could use a high-profile job!
