The States of North and South Carolina have created a NC-SC State Boundary Commission to establish where the border is. Reportedly, the initial surveyors, between the years of 1735 and 1815, marked the boundary by hatcheting trees, and many of those trees have since gone to tree heaven (RIP). The impoverished State of North Carolina is not averse to spending teacher salaries on the project. Perhaps there are pockets of Democrats, Republicans, blacks, whites, Hispanics, gays, or other purportedly single-minded whatnots to strategically trade in gerrymanders.
