As with many issues, some highly relevant points are often missed in the dialogue. Yesterday I was told that the UNC Board of Governors would likely not have supported HB1183. Interesting that nobody in the legislature apparently asked them.

Beyong that however is a great story here in the WSJ about the problems illegals are having with degrees in the workforce.

Some of the highlights:
1) The US Supreme Court ruled in 1982 that all children, regardless of immigration status, are entitled to attend elementary and secondary school for free. But higher education is a state matter.
2) Texas, NM, Ok, Kan, Ut, Ca, Wa, Ill, and NY have laws that allow illegals to qualify for in-state tuition.
3) Or, Neb, Min, NC, Fla, and Mass all have similar laws under consideration
4) Now those who qualified a few years ago are coming out of universities in states that allowed it and are finding themselves unemployable with a degree due to their immigration status.
5)Due to this, the next solution may be to provide “legal” status to illegals with a degree.

So, you see, the tail spin continues. And welcome aboard Matt Mittan, our wonderful friend from Asheville.
