Two University of Illinois students were suspended by Illini Media
board of directors following the controversy in publishing six Danish
cartoons that showed the Prophet Muhammad. According to a report in The Daily Tar Heel
– which ran its own version of the cartoon which led to a firestorm of
controversy at UNC-Chapel Hill – said Editor in Chief Acton Gorton and
Opinions Editor Charles Prochaska were suspended without pay while an
investigation was conducted into the publishing of the photos.

I liked Gorton’s comments where he said “The Daily Illini is afraid to deal with the controversy ? they lack courage.”

So
far Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Margaret Jablonski or
Chancellor James Moeser haven’t called for DTH Editor Ryan Tuck to be
suspended. I hope they don’t. To do so would be foolish and also a slap
in the face to the freedom of the press.
