I’m sitting in my driveway in Durham as lightning is crashing all around me and the rain is falling heavy enough to make me think of using a nearby stack of lumber to build an ark. Just drove through this mess from Lynchburg, Va., but it didn’t get really bad until I was south of Roxboro. The worst standing water, ironically, was on the bridge that crosses the Eno just north of the entrance to West Point on the Eno. What’s up with that? How bad a design does it have be for a bridge to hold water instead of it rolling off into the river?
